Advanced Placement Courses
Advanced Placement (AP) courses are taken for the benefit of preparing
to take the AP exams, in that subject, at the end of the school
year. This program is through The College Board. At NCA, we offer
AP courses in the following subjects:
· English IV - English Literature (Seniors)
· Government (Concurrent Credit Available)
· Calculus AB
· English III - English Language Arts (Juniors)
· U.S. History (Concurrent Credit Available)
· World History (Concurrent Credit Available)
These courses are taught at a rigorous pace and the curriculum
is enhanced to meet the criteria for the AP exam. A student receives
honors credit for taking an AP course. Additionally, another advantage
to taking AP courses is the possibility of receiving college credit
in the course. The exam scores range from 1 to 5. The higher the
score the better the chance that a student will receive college
credit. Please understand, however, that it is up to the college
to determine what score they will accept for college credit, OR
if they will accept AP courses at all. The parents and students
will be notified in January or February that it is time to start
paying for their AP exam. At that time, a list of dates for the
exams will be given out. The exam is NOT mandatory, but I would
strongly recommend taking the AP exam. If in doubt about the college/university’s
acceptance of the AP exams, I strongly urge you to call them and
inquire about what scores, if any, they accept on AP exams for college
credit. Further information can be obtained from The College Board
website.
